9hp Replacement Connecting Rods for White Metal Bearings
We have identified a supplier who can provide replacement connecting rods that are already white metalled and ready for finish machining on the big end, at a cost of around £250. Please contact us to register your interest.
The following items are flagged for re-order and we are seeking feedback from the membership on demand for these items. Because sales records show that the majority of members are purchasing collet retained valves, the decision has been taken not to restock peg retained valves at this point in time. These items were slow moving and the capital required is more urgently needed for other components.
8E64: Peg Valve, 1 5/16″ (9hp, 12/6, 14/6 & 15/6)
There are 73 of these in stock and at a run rate of 16 per year we have adequate stock for the next few years.
R64: Collet Valve, 1 3/8″ (12/4)
There is just 1 of these in stock, but we have done a price comparison based on indicated supplier prices. 8 peg retained valves would be around £250 plus vat, whereas 8 collet retained valves complete with new caps and collets would be around £160 plus vat.
R1169: Collet Valve, 1 9/16″ (12/4 – Sprite inlet)
Just 1 of these in stock and the last sale was 4 in 2010.
Quite a busy time since the last report and two members have taken advantage of our in-stock replacement 9hp crankshafts to progress their engine rebuilds.
A number of members have asked “what is the correct sequence for tightening the cylinder head nuts on the 12/4 engine?”. The sequence is given in the 12/4 Instruction book, but is worth repeating:
“…. and tightening down of the nuts proceeded with. Counting the studs from the front of the engine on the induction manifold side: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to the rear and proceeding down the opposite side (from the front) 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. Tighten as follows: 4, 10, 1, 7, 6, 12, 5, 11, 8, 2, 3, 9”.
This is not the same for 9hp engines, please refer to the Manuel for 9hp models.
